Metabolic Medicine - seeks to understand, treat and prevent a range of endocrine and related metabolic disorders.

The Metabolic Medicine research area is comprised of two groups with over 40 scientists and research students. The research takes a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation of metabolic dysfunction, with particular emphases on obesity, insulin resistance, bone disease and liver disease.

Research activity ranges through the entire spectrum of translational research from clinical studies in obesity, type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease through to molecular biology studies into human fat cell biology and intracellular signalling, with particular emphasis on using human subjects and tissue samples. Group leaders include scientists and clinicians with a range of backgrounds and a highly complementary skill set.
